What opportunities, communities, grants, fellowships, hackathons, conferences, or resources have you come across recently that deserve more attention? I am always looking for things to include in future editions, so feel free to share anything interesting you've found. If I feature one of your finds in a future edition, I'll always make sure to credit you. If you discovered an opportunity through the radar, applied to something, joined a community, attended an event, or simply found something you hadn't seen before, I'd genuinely love to hear about that too. With your permission, I'd be happy to feature your update in a future 💙 Reader Updates section. Small request: If you are sharing a link, please avoid posting raw URLs directly. DEV sometimes filters them before I get a chance to see the comment.

yay, cometh friday cometh another helpful piece from hema. Edition 20 matches my plans. I registered for the PayPal AI Hackathon. I am still choosing what to build. I want PayPal and the AI part to be required for the project to work. The ARC Prize rule is new to me. No internet during scoring means no API models. That changes how a team must build. Thank you for doing this every Friday.

  4. @hemapriya_kanagala · 6d ago

Daniel, yay!! Would love to see what you end up building! Once you're done, let me know how it went. If you're okay with it, I'd love to feature your experience in a future Reader Updates. All the best with the hackathon 😀

@hemapriya_kanagala , huge congratulations on hitting edition #20! the consistency and quality you put into this series week after week is genuinely inspiring. i especially appreciate the highlight on the arc prize 2026 offline scoring rule. as someone building on a $150 phone with spotty 3g, constraints like "no internet during evaluation" actually level the playing field. it forces solutions to be self-contained, efficient, and truly robust, rather than just relying on heavy, paid api calls. also, the "build your own x" resource is an absolute goldmine for budget-conscious devs who want to understand systems deeply without paying for expensive courses. thank you for continuing to curate such high-signal opportunities for the community. this is exactly the kind of resource that helps underrepresented builders find their footing and compete on a global stage. keep up the amazing work! 🐯💙

  6. @hemapriya_kanagala · 6d ago

I can imagine it can't be easy with that phone and 3G net, but love that you're still building, Harun! Also, really happy you found the picks useful, and thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts 😀

  7. @koda2026 · 6d ago

hema, thank you so much! the constraints just make the wins feel that much more rewarding. your consistent, high-signal curation makes it absolutely worth the effort to stay engaged, test the tools, and share what i find. keep up the incredible work with the radar, and i'll definitely keep an eye out for more great community finds to share with you! 💙🐯

I can't say I know what it's like to be in your situation, but I can imagine how hard it must be. Don't lose hope, Abhishek. I hope things start working out for you soon.

    Informative Post :)

Thank you so much, Abhisek 😀

The $2M ARC Prize is the only one here worth taking seriously if you actually care about the problem. Hackathons like PayPal's are fine for networking but most submissions are demo-quality throwaways that never run again. Build Your Own X is underrated though — I rebuilt a DNS resolver from scratch last year and learned more in 2 weeks than from 6 months of reading docs.

  15. @hemapriya_kanagala · 5d ago

I get what you mean, Onizuka! I think it also depends on what people are looking for. Some opportunities might be more useful to one person than another, so I like including a mix in the Radar. Thanks for reading 😀

Love how this brings so many opportunities together in one place! Sometimes, the hardest part of growing as a developer isn’t learning new skills it’s discovering the right opportunities to put those skills into practice. I really appreciate the effort behind curating these resources and making them easier for the community to find. Not everyone has the same network or access to opportunities, and posts like this can genuinely open doors for someone. Keep sharing and inspiring developers to learn, build, and take that next step!

  20. @hemapriya_kanagala · 4d ago

Thank you! I really hope someone finds an opportunity through the Radar that they might have missed otherwise. That's what makes doing this worth it 😀

I find this series extremely handy for finding lesser‑known hackathons and research contests. The ARC‑Prize’s no‑external‑API evaluation rule is a good reminder to think about fully self‑contained AI systems.

    Thank you so much 😀
