what is webbit?

A small, fast front page for a very large internet.

The idea

Good public conversation is scattered across dozens of networks. Webbit pulls a useful slice of those public feeds into one dense, old-school reader. It has no account system, no engagement traps, no infinite scroll, and no algorithm trained on you.

The pipeline

9 public sources
one post shape + deduplication
fair cross-network ranking

Every adapter has a short timeout. Requests run in parallel, results are normalized, and duplicate links are merged with separate discussion links. Native feed position matters more than raw reactions because a “big” score means something different on every network. Fresh and stale edge caches keep the page useful when an upstream is slow or unavailable.

Privacy and limitations

Webbit reads public APIs and public feeds. It does not proxy private posts, log you in, vote, reply, or personalize the server response. Save, hide, theme, and density preferences live only in your browser. Links take you to the original publisher or the network where the discussion is happening.
